Piccione Vineyard's Fall Leaf Looking Guide

Fall is one of our favorite times of year at Piccione Vineyards. As the leaves begin to change, the vineyard and surrounding foothills take on shades of gold, orange, and red.
If you're planning a visit specifically to enjoy the fall foliage views from our Courtyard, late October through early November is typically the best time to see peak color at Piccione.
Why is Fall Color Later in the Foothills?
Fall color arrives at different times across North Carolina, generally beginning at higher elevations and gradually moving into the foothills and lower elevations.
Because Piccione Vineyards is located in the foothills rather than at a higher mountain elevation, our fall foliage tends to peak later in the season. So if you're planning a visit based on foliage reports from the higher elevations, keep in mind that the timing can be different here.
What to expect throughout the season:

🍂 Early October
The first hints of fall begin to appear, but much of the landscape is still green and abundant. The air has a fall crispness to it, but many days are still warm.

🍁 Mid-October
Lush greens begin fading to more muted shades. The mountain ridge's bright navy blue coloring pops in contrast. Some trees display fall colors, while many are holding out.
🍁 Late October
Fall color becomes increasingly vibrant as peak foliage approaches. With 360-degree views from La Collina, there’s no shortage of beautiful scenery to take in, from golden yellows and oranges to deep reds, with plenty of green still mixed in.
This year, our Fall Harvest Dinner falls right in this beautiful window. If the food, wine, and celebration weren’t already enough to make it a can't-miss evening, the fall foliage just might be the finishing touch.

🍁 Early November
One of the foothills’ best kept secrets: November is a beautiful time to experience fall color in our region of North Carolina.
While some areas may be just past their peak, the foothills are often still showing plenty of vibrant color, and just reaching their peak. So, when planning your fall visit to North Carolina wine country, don’t overlook November. You may find that some of the best foliage is still waiting for you here in the foothills.

🍂 Mid-November
With the sun setting earlier, golden hour arrives during our regular business hours. The foliage begins to fade as more leaves fall, although some autumn color may remain.
When Should You Visit?
If fall foliage is part of your plans, we recommend looking at late October through the first week or two of November.
Of course, there isn't an exact date for peak color. Temperature, rainfall, and other weather conditions can shift the timing from year to year. Different types of trees also change at different times, so the landscape can continue evolving throughout the season.
That's part of the fun of fall in the North Carolina foothills. There's always something new to see.
