La Collina 2022: A Blend Worth Celebrating
Coming up on three years ago now, we opened the doors to La Collina: our hilltop home at Piccione Vineyards and a place that has become an important part of our story.
To commemorate the opening of our new facility, we created a special red blend: La Collina, a blend that reflects both the place it was named for and the wines we love to make. The 2021 vintage marked the beginning of this tradition, and now, as we approach La Collina’s three-year anniversary, we’re excited to introduce its second vintage.
La Collina (2022) will be available in the tasting room beginning Saturday, October 10.
The Story Behind La Collina
In Italian, la collina means “the hilltop” an especially fitting name for our facility, which sits above the vineyard overlooking the surrounding foothills.
The first La Collina was created as a commemorative blend for the opening of the facility in late 2023. While the wine itself is not made every year, we wanted it to become something more than a one-time celebration: a wine that could return in future vintages and continue to mark special moments in the story of La Collina.
The 2022 vintage carries that sentiment forward.
La Collina 2022 is a blend of extended barrel-aged Montepulciano and Petit Verdot, bringing together the dark-fruited character of Montepulciano with the structure and depth of Petit Verdot.
In the Glass
La Collina 2022 pours a clear, dark ruby red.
On the nose, look for dark fruit, cedar, and a hint of black pepper. The palate follows with dark fruit alongside medium acidity and firm tannins. A balanced mid-palate leads into a smooth, lingering finish.
It’s a wine with enough structure to enjoy now, while also offering the potential to develop further in the cellar for 5 - 7 years.
For the best expression, we recommend aerating or decanting before serving.
A New Vintage, A Continuing Story
The release of La Collina 2022 gives us another reason to pause and appreciate how much has happened since the first vintage was created.
What began as a commemorative wine for the opening of a new building has become part of the story of the place itself. As we approach three years of La Collina, this second vintage is a small celebration of where we started and an opportunity to look ahead to what comes next.
